All our Wooden And Metal Beds are handmade in our factory in Hampshire, England. We have a skilled team of joiners and craftsmen that work round the clock to ensure your custom made bed is with you when you want, to the highest level of quality and at the price you require.

Wooden beds

Our Wooden Bed Frames are built using wood from sustainable sources, and our suppliers comply with FSC and PEFC guidelines. Where possible all our fixings and consumables are UK produced and locally sourced. We use 70x70 mm timber for legs and 19x95 mm boards for all horizontal rails and slats, all visible exterior members are profiled or have a double bull nose

Our bed frames are constructed utilising mortise & tenon joints for all the horizontal rails that locate the mating faces 15 mm inside the legs. It takes about three times as long to build one of our handmade beds compared with one that uses butt joints and dowels, but the resulting bed frame is infinitely superior.

You won’t find any pencil thin dowels in our beds! We glue and screw the head and toe board rails into the leg posts, ensure they are square and then set them aside for 24 hours to allow the glue to set before hiding the screws under wooden plugs which are then shaved flush with the surface.

The slat deck is made from the same size timbers that are used in all other horizontal parts of our Wooden Bed, they are predrilled and countersunk for screws, these screws securely attach the slats to the side rails and prevent the slats being forced through the gap should the side rails deflect under load.

We don’t use flimsy little slats in our beds!
Our Wooden Bed Frames come to you partly assembled, it takes about twenty minutes to put one together, and if done properly the resulting frame is strong enough that it can be lifted by one corner and it will not break. The frame is light enough that once the mattress is removed one person can easily lift it for all those essential tasks like hovering underneath it!

Iron Beds

These Stylish Antique Range of metal beds offer amazingly strong bed frames built the old fashioned way at amazingly affordable prices.

All metal beds are hand built and designed by Beds of Hay, so you won’t find them anywhere else. They are made from the highest quality material all sourced in the UK. The range of Antique Style Iron Beds come in a full range of finishes to suite your requirements.

We use either traditional wooden slats or metal tubular supports to support our mattresses it’s your choice and the slat deck is made from the same size timbers that are used in all other horizontal parts of our Wooden Beds, they are predrilled and counter bored to fit the locking screw to the side rail and then tighten with allen key. The side rails are fitted to the head boards and foot boards with strong M8 Bolts, and a plastic sleeve is fitted in place to ensure that our Metal Bed Frames do not squeak!

We have also gone that step further by providing on our Iron Beds adjustable feet this is so if the surface is uneven it can be levelled. Simply screw to adjust the foot fitting. Our beds come to you partly assembled, it takes about 10 minutes to put these together and the resulting bed frame will be very strong and last a life time.
